Asked to design “luxury apartments for Chicago’s wealthy” architecture firm H.L. Stevens & Co. created The Churchill as a fashionable apartment hotel at the Southeast corner of State & Goethe. Many wealthy and celebrated residents called The Churchill home.
Established as one of the preeminent residential addresses in Chicago, The Churchill warranted inclusion in Baird & Warner’s legendary A Portfolio of Fine Apartment Homes in 1928. The portfolio describes The Churchill as “designed to meet the demands of a discriminating clientele. Every appointment in the hotel has been fashioned to create unusual, comfort and convenience for guests."
Converted to condominiums in 1979, the original legacy lives on much the same as quoted in 1928: “Here you will find the last word in service, the finest class of patronage, and a permanently attractive home.”
